Leg 3, Jupiter to Cocoa

As the second longest leg of the race, a lot of the sailors cringe when they wake up in the morning for this one. In 2006, boats took as long as 17 hours to finish the 120+ nautical miles. in light air and strong currents, this leg can prove to be a real test of fortitude for the teams. Likewise, in 2008 this leg involved sailing into a northerly breeze the entire leg, something that involves a lot of physical endurance to do well.

There are many inlets that must be avoided on this leg, including the Fort Pierce Inlet, which can catch a weary team off guard if they get too close to the South Jetty.
